Picked up my first ever American Precision bass. DAMN.

I've owned plenty of bass guitars over the years. I've been gravitating more and more to my Jazzes (an early 90's Japanese Fotoflame and a Geddy Lee Signature jazz), and they've been great. I love the thin Jazz nick.

And then a buddy sold me an early 70's Tokai lawsuit P-bass. It became my go-to bass just because it was light, sounded great, and looked cool. Also, the flats on it made it a bit easier to play when I was out-of-practice... I play with a heavy-handed fingerstyle most of the time, and flats didn't tear up my hands. Since I've been more of a sound engineer in the past decade, htat was more important than I'd like to admit.

And then I joined a new band... and, of course, NEEDED a new bass guitar. What started as a search for a case turned into buying a new to me American Standard P-bass that had been lovingly upgraded and taken care of.

Wow.

It feels right, looks amazing, sounds terrific... and my jazzes might be for sale soon so I can get another.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'll just buy another one and keep the harem together.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi! Hope those of you who're left are finding yourself well!

New band...and NEEDED a NBD! <snort>!

Congrats! Yeah one day I want to follow you down that American Precision
Road! I generally like a thin narrow neck but somehow the wide neck of
my go-to PJ is ALSO just perfect! Generally my usual basses are my
collection of three G&L L2500, but sometimes only a Fender-shaped
headstock will do. In that case I have an old Squier 5 string PJ-bass
"special" that I tweaked in with NOS Fender split P and Ultrajazz J
pickups. (originally had two rather nasty J pickups...go figure). Sure
it has a Fender-shaped headstock but it's still a Squier. Yeah, tonewood
doesn't matter much but I'd still rather have it in alder rather than
agathis.

Point is that one day Fender (I hope) will come to their senses and
start selling an American Precision P-bass that isn't missing a string
and has a PJ configuration. And when they do... Well you know the rest.

Happy NBD>

As usual, my response is "I can't count to 5, no matter how hard I try." So... Good luck! :-D

I'm loving this thing. It's just right... And luckily, doesn't have an unnecessary string anywhere to be found! LOL

Man I love the javelin-stabbing tone of my P bass. I just threw some DR black beauties on it and the strings feel great and the sound is deep.

Glad you’ve found it rediscovered the precision bass. Every bass player should have one.

I agree. I'm seriously thinking about getting another P-Bass and throwing a Jazz neck on it (Duck Dunn-style), since I love my Jazzes so much. Or maybe I'll finally take the plunge and buy all the parts to build my own from Warmoth... We'll see.

Digging it HARD core though.

Sounds like a plan. I’ve sot a couple Mexican basses, a p and a j I swapped necks just for the fun of it and enjoy them both. I’d say my overall preference would be the p necked J though. I like the fatter neck. Good luck

I concur. While I do love a thin neck (eg. Ibanez) oddly, I love my wide
Squier Pbass 5er neck much better than my Jazz necks.

I return you guys to your 4 string P-bass worship.

I have a love for my pbass special 5s too. Fat necks!! The next step up are my ibanez 6rs. Necks like the deck of an aircraft carrier.
