I went to a Henry Mancini tribute tonight at the new Disney Hall in LA.
First of all, the acoustics of Disney are amazing. Sounds like the ultimate
sound system - you hear exactly what you are supposed to hear.

Among the highlights of the evening:

Stevie Wonder playing Moon River on harmonica.

Bassist Abraham Laboriel opening the Theme from Peter Gunn with one of the
most amazing solos I've ever heard - essentially he was playing two melody
lines at once.

Abe is a nutter, but you gotta love him!

How can any sane person do a hectic solo whilst jumping AND turning around
and round without losing it!?

The key here, I think, is to not think of death as an end. But, but, think
of it more as a very effective way of cutting down on your expenses.

A year or two ago, someone posted a link to a movie showing Abe doing his
usual bit on-stage. Anyone still have that? He's a great player, and
obviously a real character.

I think it was a Stanley Clarke vid.

Yea, Abe playing with Stan. Good memory Bud.
Abe is amazing. I have his "Friends" CD, but watching him, and his
passion is MUCH better.
