I don't know the name of band
that was on Saturday Night Live
this weekend, but they really sucked.

The only saving grace was Eric
Bloom's role playing excellent
cow bell coverage to cover up
whatever out of tune crap they
tried to play.

Bloom's showmanship was above
the call of duty and saved the performance.
Vintage Cow bell players have never gotten
the credit they deserve. I need to find out what
model year bell he used, or maybe it was a RI.

I recommend you switch out the stock handle for a Seymour Duncan Antiquity
handle, it makes a HUGE difference in tone, and you can usually find them
for only $200 or so on ebay.

I've read some people who prefer the Lindy Fralin hand-wrapped handles, but
they're harder to find.

Oh another mod I like is to switch the passive stick for an active EMG, but
that's just my personal preference.

I gotta disagree. I think Will Ferrell's cowbell schtick is getting
really old. The original sketch was funny (especially Christopher
Walken), but in true SNL fashion, they just won't let it die.

And Queens Of The Stoneage were pretty far from "out of tune crap",
IMHO.

Hey, I love cowbells as much as anyone. But I hate to see a joke that
should have died a natural death be kept alive artificially. SNL is the
Terri Schiavo of comedy.

Hey, hold!

Has QOTSA been on SNL?
Did they re-do the old "more cowbell" routine?

If that is true I'm glad I didn't see it..

It was a re-run, but yes.

Kinda funny at first, but it went on *way* too long. Seriously
detracted from the musical performance.

I bought the new CD and was underwhelmed.
I *really* like the first and third CDs.
Somehow I never got around to buying the second one....

i agree... the latest QOTSA release is a little weaker than i expected...
Thad, if you don't own "R" which i believe is their 2nd one... definitely
get it as it's worth it

overall they're a respectable band i would say but not very mainstream...
they def carry that underground flavor

btw, what's QOTW? (from Nick's post)

I was still totally immersed in the first album when it came out. I was
afraid it wouldn't measure up, so I just kept listening to and absorbing
that first one.
I'll go get it as soon as I'm done with Coheed & Cambria.

They were labeled 'stoner rock' which Josh didn't really like. He calls
it 'robot rock'.

Quote of the Week.
I got nominated a couple of years ago in crossposted message from
alt.guitar and Mark (xush) told me about it.

I just got the live DVD. Very good stuff.
Oh, and I bought In Keeping Secrets again and got a DVD with it, too.
My kids love the alternate video for Jersey City Devil.

The dude' guitar solo was no wear in *whatever* key they
were trying to play in. just start ripping notes and made up crap
and call it a solo just stinks. IMO.

It's too bad SNL can't book real musical guests anymore.
I guess get stuck with these wanta be's because they are on
a CD owned by MS NBC ? GE ... ... ummm ... Ok .

Whatever man. I don't give a shit what key he plays in. Josh Homme is
still a guitar hero for his work with Kyuss.

And don't even compare QOTSA with flavour of the week artists like
Ashlee Simpson.

I was aware of that. But I *DID* confuse the SNL marketing machine with
overdoing the sketch. A few weeks ago, I saw 2 different "More Cowbell"
shirts at the mall.

But I still stand beside what I said. If it gets a laugh once, SNL will
rub an idea into the ground.
